We have made over 100 shirts for this show.

about 20 of the funnest will make it onto the wall for the show on friday!

it will run through Sept 1. at the new

BOWS and ARROWS at 1815 19th street

in midtown Sacramento.

All shirts are made by local painters, writers, drummers, wizards and teachers.

They are all one of a kind.

Most of the shirts are collaborative pieces made by more than

two artists at a time.

Renny Pritikin wrote the Prescription, I read it, fell in love.

Got inspired. starting drawing. Created the show. Got 25 artists to draw original art work illustrating one of the 24 phrases in the Prescription, Paul and I made the silk screens. I printed them with most of the artists by hand at the Verge.

Liz and I made special hang tags for each one so you can read who did what to each shirt, and we made garment labels that have been sewn one by one into each shirt with love.

Shirts have been hand dyed, painted, beaded, stitched and skillfully scissored by local artmakers that you need to know.

Priced between $15 and $50, you can totally bring one home.

Olivia and I went to the MBA GALA last week.

In detailing the inner workings of New York's creative industries-ostensibly to demonstrate what policymakers ignore when their appreciation for art begins and ends at the museum-urban planning Ph.D. Currid gives readers an eagle-eyed look at the networking mechanics of the art-as-business crowd. Colorful description abounds, as do colorful characters, such as "petite, personable" Claw, who "has clothing lines with Calvin Klein and Ecko, and is the fashion editor for the indie magazine, Swindle," as well as "one of the most celebrated female graffiti artists of all time." Using Claw's success to illustrate "three important characteristics of the cultural economy"-"unique and symbiotic" inter-industry relationships, rapid commodification of cultural goods and multiple streams of self-generating buzz-Currid is at her lucid best. This is a photo of a photocopy of a part of the photo collage I made for Jon for
his birthday last year. This particular piece lives with me in
my Studio at the VERGE because I love it.

Luckily, The Prescription art show project has been
keeping me busy at the studio. I have been getting back
into silk screening with these 20+ artists who are
collaborating for the Show Friday Aug 5th at Bows and Arrows.

I have missed it. I love printing!

THE MOST INSPIRATIONAL THING I HAVE EVER read.
WRITTEN by Renny Pritikin.

I am a painter.
I am a small business owner.
I understand, like a clear math equation, the components needed to make
a living as
an artist.
One of the most important elements is living in a supportive community.

If you are an artist, and you don't Feel like your community supports you,
You NEED to do something about it.

Move to LA? Move to Portland? Move to NYC? ahahhaha.
NO. god.
That is not going to accomplish anything for most of us.
You'll only feel like a smaller fish, and probably spiral even further into
lonliness, confusion, hatred for all the dumbfucks that don't understand or
seem to give a fuck about what you are doing.

You stay and you make a difference.
Make Sacramento better.
We have so so so much talent right here. right now.
Its a small scene. but a good one. It needs to be bigger to
be self supporting.

The Prescription for a Healthy Art Scene helps you understand
what needs to be focused on outside you and your studio.

A year ago I read this and fell in love.
He did it.
Renny put the answers on paper.
As an artist who lives so much in a visual, physical world where
I primarily communicate what I want to say
through images and physical gestures,
I've struggled to find words to express how to take
art from a personal, private experience and expression
to one that can be felt and shared.

I decided to create an art show that involved local visual and audio artists
to collaborate on silk screening shirts .
I have been collage style printing on clothing for a long time.
I had my first experience making a living
as an artist when I started a small label
called Pretty Trashy in 2003.

This Prescription project will be the ultimate collage.
I love working with other artists.
The people are the live, essential elements that bring their own
talents, ideas, and energy into the work.
Like members of a band, each person adds necessary ingredients
to the art, ultimately making it more interesting and stronger.

(hopefully. i will not hang your shirt if i think
it looks like shit. knowing how to use the
tools and manipulate the materials in addition to basic
design intuition should be adequate for this project)

Each artist illustrates one of the 24 ( it was 23 ) phrases from the Prescription.
Those drawings are burned onto silk screens and we all get together
and have a printing party and make really amazing pieces of art (one of a kind hand printed shirts)
for the show at the new Bows and Arrows gallery.

People can buy the shirts and the money goes to the artists that made them.

Fibers.com is helping support by adding a Prescription shop page to their custom t-shirt
printing website so that people who live outside of Sacramento can support our artists and spread awareness. Every fucking city needs a healthier art scene.
( I think Fibers.com is a good choice because they are based
in Midtown Sacramento at the URBAN HIVE. support local
everything as often as possible. )

There are really 30 artists involved.
We are printing together at the Verge this Sunday June 26 and Monday June 27

making the shirts that will be displayed in the show on Friday AUGUST 5, 2011
at BOWS AND ARROWS .

We will sell the shirts that are made at the shop, and teach people how to make their own, too.

I want people to get excited.
to get together.
to create together.
to inspire each other.
to support each other.
I think this is one fun way to do it.

KANDIS HAD A BIRTHDAY!

SHE KNOWS how to party.
I like her style.
She wanted to take a trip to Port Costa
to stay in this haunted brothel hotel that was built
in the 1890s.
The town has like 2 buildings in it:
The burlington hotel and the restaurant/bar, literally 10 steps
across the street
that boasts a beer list of like 500 bottles from around the world.

(they will also sell you $11 vodka redbulls)

Feel Free to SKIP the
$14 iceberg salad bar with soup
that the restaurant had on its huge 5 item menu.

Next time I'll be Down to Snack off
the Bar Menu, maybe grilled ham n cheese
if I'm starving.

The time of day we arrived was perfect.
The lighting inside and out was soft.
The air was cool and gentle.
I felt relaxed and welcome, but also
nervous and wildly curious to run into every
hallway, peek into every bolted door crack,
feel sharp temperature drops,
hear whispers...
I was so ready to soak it all up.

Old hanging lights in the worn wood bar
and the
sun setting across the water provided
a "glad you are here" glow...

We checked in at the bar across the street
and then wandered all around the mansion brothel
looking for stories and locked rooms
and secrets to get into...
so much to see, but there's also
500 beers summoning me.
Calling me into a bar
with wild dead
animals, skin and brain cells...

I can also warn you of the "fuckin-A"
Russian NO FEAR whore who
will entertain your men right in front
of you. Watching her work was awesome.
She must have learned somewhere down
that long-ass road she's been on
that guys like to be told they are "Trouble",
and want women who think
they are B A D....

She tried her hardest to make Josh
dance like John Travolta carrying a red can of paint.

I could also get really into how
she was dressed and the way she moved
and how much I Hate Fried Chicken,
but we'll save that for later so we
can stay focused on this trip you

Road Trip: Orr Babes in the wild

Like Angels ascending on me,
my lovelies
Dani and Siobhan, scooped me up and drove me to Orr, in Mendocino County.
It is a bastion of clean crisp air and hot springs in outdoor pools where you can delicately float and flip through chapters in a book under the clear sun and full moon. For three days I was cosseted and replenished more than I ever thought possible. Thank you. Thank you.

So we are partnering with FAT FACE for the new cafe at bows. We really couldn't be more excited. These fine ladies are so sweet and upbeat and the FOOD! DANG! It is soo good. You should go check them out in Davis if you haven't already.

We sealed the deal a few months ago, but this week Coleen and Jaymes and I went all around town looking for the fundamentals.

We hit every Asian Market in South Sacramento.
